People With Disabilities Help Troops Stay Prepared

Turn on the news and you'll hear the valiant stories of troops in the U.S. military. And helping to support the troops are many other courageous patriots, in particular the people with severe disabilities who help keep servicemen and women equipped with the supplies they need.

Many of the products that help protect U.S. troops are produced by more than 45,000 people who are blind or have other severe disabilities working through the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program. Also known as the JWOD Program, it is the largest single source of employment for people with disabilities, providing them with the job skills and training necessary to earn equitable wages, benefits and greater independence.

The JWOD Program, administered by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled, the federal agency that oversees the program, with assistance from NISH-Creating Employment Opportunities for People with Severe Disabilities and National Industries for the Blind, is designed to help reduce the nearly 70 percent unemployment rate among people who are blind or have severe disabilities. The program stems from the Wagner-O'Day Act passed in 1938 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, which allowed agencies serving people who are blind to sell products to the federal government.

In 1971, under the leadership of Sen. Jacob Javits, Congress amended the Wagner-O'Day Act to allow people with severe disabilities to participate in the program. It also allowed agencies in the JWOD Program to provide services as well as products to the federal government.

NISH works with more than 600 nonprofit agencies to provide employment to people with disabilities. The following are some of the critical supplies produced through the JWOD Program.

* Chemical protective garments used to shield soldiers from biochemical weapons.

* Military clothing, including the new Army Combat Uniform, fleece jackets, camouflage fatigue trousers, overalls and dress slacks for the Navy and Air Force.

* Individual first-aid kits. The Marines worked closely with a JWOD-affiliated agency on the design and development of a first-aid kit pouch to increase the speed with which soldiers can administer aid to others or to themselves.

* Bandages. Millions of bandages in 14 sizes are produced each year for the armed services.

The Mystery Shopping World

When you become a part of the mystery shopping world there are several things you will have to do to maintain your status as a mystery shopper. One of the most important things in mystery shopping is note taking. You will be required by the company that you are shopping for to take detailed notes about the establishment you have visited. It is wise to make sure you take these notes immediately upon returning to your car. This will enable you to have the information and details fresh within your mind still, if you wait until you get home, you could have forgotten various information that was needed by the company.

Another thing to keep in mind, is you should not ever attempt to take notes while you are shopping. This could be cause for someone to spot you and you will “get caught”, many companies will refuse to pay any mystery shopper that has been caught mystery shopping. Once you have taken notes, you should always make sure you keep a copy of them in a safe place. Occasionally, the mystery shopping company will return to you to ask you other questions about your experience, the notes will allow you to look at your notes and answer them accurately.

Mystery shopping can earn you good money, the amount will be determined by the particular job, where you live, and the type of shop you will be visiting. Sometimes your mystery shopping experience will be paid for (expenses), other times reimbursement will be less than other types of mystery shopping jobs. Typically a retail store job will pay you anywhere from $10 to $30 a shop, depending upon the type of store you are visiting. A fast food job, will pay anywhere between $5 to $15 with a meal allowance of around $5. For a casual dining job, you will typically receive somewhere between $15 and $30, depending on the establishment with meal allowance being $15 to $20. Grocery stores can earn you somewhere between $15 and $30 with an allowance of around $5 to $8. The grocery store jobs will likely have a shopping list that is specific on what you should get during the mystery shopping experience.

How To Lose 10 Pounds

How to lose 10 pounds is not as difficult a question as many believe. The idea that losing weight is difficult is by and large just commercial hype that the huge weight loss and diet industry needs to justify its own existence. Once you understand the basic principles, you will find out that it is not that hard at all. Here's where you can find out how to lose 10 pounds.

1
Before you even try to think about losing weight, you need to understand the simple principles behind it. As you eat and drink, your body takes in calories, which are energy to be used by the body to fuel its daily activities. It is an easy concept to understand. When you take in more calories than your body needs, anything left over is stored as fat, usually in places where you don't want it. When your calorific intake is inadequate, the body draws on reserves.

2
Sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved in two ways, either by taking in less calories by eating healthier food, and less of it, or by burning off excess calories through physical exercise. By far the best course of action is to do the two together. If you try to lose weight through dieting alone, not only will you be far less effective, and far slower, but you will also not keep your skin and muscle tone. This can lead to unsightly flaps of skin hanging from the body.

3
Try to get advice from your doctor before you start. A weight loss regime usually involves a dramatic change of lifestyle, and it is as well to make sure that you are not suffering from any undiscovered ailment which could impair your effort. Doctors have seen more than a few people attempting to lose weight, so they will be able to give some tips on how to stay safe and healthy while the pounds come off!

4
Losing 10 pounds is far from an impossible goal, so there is no need to make the regimen too extreme If you restrict yourself to eating bland food that you really don't like, then you are more likely to fail. Virtually anything can be eaten in moderation, and mixing small portions with salad and vegetables, with fruit as a snack is a great way to eat a balanced diet. This also reduces or eliminates hunger pangs.

There you are – four easy steps to losing 10 pounds. Follow this sensible advice, take it slowly, and your weight loss could easily exceed the target. Good luck! Click the links below for some more resources.

Online Sale Of Alcohol To Teens Worries Experts

Did you know that millions of children are buying alcohol online or know someone else underage who does? In spite of this dangerous new trend, states are moving to increase online wine sales even as they fail to monitor alcohol Web sites to enforce underage drinking laws. That's the word from experts who say a growing number of teens have credit and debit cards that allow them to point, click and drink alcohol ordered anonymously off the Web.

According to the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, the Internet can act as a type of general store where computer users including teenagers can purchase almost anything-even beer, wine and liquor-without any age verification.

Results from a recent survey of 14-to-20-year-olds conducted by Teenage Research Unlimited (TRU) for the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America, Inc. (WSWA) indicate the following:

• Half a million minors ages 14-20 (2%) admit ordering alcohol online themselves, and 3.1 million (12%) report having a friend who does it.

• Nearly one in 10 (9%) say they have visited a Web site that sells alcohol. One-third-nearly 8.9 million ages 14-20 nationwide-are open to the possibility of an online alcohol purchase before age 21.

• Seventy-five percent say their parents aren't able to control what they do on the Internet.

Advocates believe there should be stiffer penalties for overnight delivery companies that break the law and states need more resources to monitor online alcohol activity.

"We know kids are buying alcohol online, we know states are allowing more Internet wine sales and we know states are not doing even basic monitoring or enforcement of these purchases," WSWA CEO Juanita Duggan said.

She believes that if states aren't encouraged to take action to stop online alcohol sales, parents will have missed an opportunity to stop the trend of Internet alcohol sales to children.

Duggan and local wine and spirits distributors encourage parents to let elected officials and regulatory agencies know how they feel about this issue.

Some say until state and local governments act, the burden falls on parents to be advocates and to make sure they are making the most of the preventive measures at their disposal.

Learning the Language Of Love in Rwanda

If it's true that the eyes are the windows to the soul, then Vestina Mukeshimana's soul must be singing. This precocious young girl's eyes literally sparkle. But this hasn't always been the case.

Vestina was born in a farming community in northwest Rwanda in 1995. The previous year, the country experienced a genocide that claimed almost 1 million lives, including Vestina's oldest brother. Soon after the war, her father passed away.

Fortunately, in 2001 Vestina began participating in Compassion International's child development program, which provides a safe haven for thousands of Rwandan children experiencing loss after the genocide.

Compassion met many needs for Vestina, including covering her school fees, providing soap, body lotion, even medical treatment and, occasionally, extra food. The program also brought light into Vestina's world.

Shortly after connecting with Compassion International's student center, Vestina's family learned that a sponsor had been found for her. "When I heard that you chose me from the other children," she wrote to her sponsor, "I felt it was like a dream."

In 2002, another of Vestina's brothers died and her remaining brother soon left Kibuye. Early the following year, tragedy struck again. "I am very sad to tell you that my mother died on January 10," Vestina wrote to her sponsor. She then moved to a group home. Fortunately, Compassion's sponsorship program allows staff to care for thousands of children like Vestina, orphaned by war or disease.

"It just melts my heart when I read Vestina's letters and hear about the hardships she's endured," says Vestina's Colorado-based sponsor. "But I believe the project workers in Rwanda are doing all they can for her. Today, I'm more excited about being a sponsor than I was 20 years ago when I started my partnership with Compassion. I'm convinced the program works ... and works incredibly well!"

Enduring so much sadness, Vestina still is making remarkable progress. This healing is evident in one of Vestina's recent letters to her sponsor. "I am doing well," she wrote. "I have drawn a picture for you. It is of myself, you and [my best friend] Ivona."

The colorful drawing is captioned with the only phrase Vestina can write and pronounce in English: "I love you."

Maybe We Need An Occasional Disaster!

The suffering and trauma left in the wake of last year's tsunami in Southeast Asia, our own hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma, the earthquake in Kashmir, and the mud slides of Central America, cannot be ignored. But none of these were man-made acts that we can attempt to eradicate, like terrorism or the brutality of tyrants.

These were natural events -- cataclysmic to be sure, but an expected by-product of life on an ever-changing and unstable planet. We can certainly improve on our ability to prepare for them, and the speed and intensity of our response to the victims, but for all our brainpower and technological sophistication, we cannot prevent their occurrence.

To emotionally cope with their aftermath, we can reframe the tragedy of events by a focus on how disasters can bring out the best in our often flawed human race.

We can look to conservative, white-only Texas towns that opened their arms, and their hearts, to poverty-stricken African Americans fleeing the floods of New Orleans.

We can stand astonished but proud at the gifts of food and shelter and support that the semi-hippies of the Rainbow Coalition brought to stricken right-wing citizens in small Mississippi towns.

We can look around a football stadium where donors stood in line to give whatever they could.

We can bow our heads in awe before the families who opened up their homes to those who had nothing left.

We can salute the volunteers who took food, water, blankets and generators to devastated areas, moving faster and with more commitment than the reluctant minions of the Federal Government.

We all lead lives rife with potentialities. It takes certain conditions, combined with inner decisions, to convert them into realities. The best of us, staring destruction, anguish, and utter desolation in the face, rise to the occasion. From banal, self-centered, unremarkable lives, we seize the chance to become more than we have been, to harness our own promise, to dare the heroic.

Disasters provide us with unique opportunities. It is not that we wish anyone pain but suffering is part of life. When it happens, it brings darkness to its victims but also the chance for fellow men to kindle a new and brighter light that enriches our species, our spirits, and our future.

The rigtht Sports cleats can make all the difference.

The Right sports cleats for the best game.

Whatever sport you play, from golf to baseball to soccer and rugby, being equiped with the right footwear is of paramount importance.

Whether you play professionally, or just for fun, buying the right Cleat for your sport may be one of the most important decisions you need to make.

Considering the risk of injury, or just plain discomfort caused by wearing the incorrect sporting footwear, some time should be spent on acquiring the information for the purchase of the best cleats.

Obviously your performance and hence enjoyment of your chosen sport is also influenced by the quality of your chosen footwear.

So you will find some informative articles here, to help guide you in your quest to sporting enjoyment nirvana.

Considering all factors before making a purchasing decision is often overlooked in the eagerness to get going. There are definately several factors that should be evaluated before plunging into the buying decision.

A mistake many people make in selecting sports equipment, is that they blindly follow the endorsement of their favorite professional sport star. The equipment being used is obviously of the highest quality, but is it right for you?

For example, when I was a Scuba diving instructor, many of the students I taught went out and blindly bought the same type of fin that I was using. They forgot that I was training 3 hours of fin swimming daily, and my muscles were used to the stiffness and resistance of the fins. They worked well for me.

Unfortunately most of the students ended up with cramps, not what they wanted.

So, even though they had chosen top rate equipment, it did anything but enhance their enjoyment of the sport.

This merely illustrates the point that you need to buy what is right for you. Is the fit right? Is the price within your budget? Will the chosen sport cleat suit your style of playing?

Answer these questions before running out and buying the wrong or unsuitable Sport cleats.

Try and get professional assistance, even if the purchase price is slightly higher than that from a discount store. The end result and cost effectiveness ratio with the correct decision, might be far better than merely a cheap dollar price.

Also remember to do some basic research online, so you are aware what is available, and suitable, before making any decisions.

Procrastination – Why People Delay?

To delay or postpone an action that needs to be done is procrastination. I will do this afterwards. There is enough time still. What do these people think by setting deadlines? I have my own priorities. This is boring. What I don't do this work at all? Ultimately what will I gain by doing this? Why cannot I have some freedom? Why everything needs to be done on time? These are all typical thoughts of a procrastinator. Rather if we finish a job in given time, we feel happier. But a lot many of us procrastinate. What are the possible reasons?

The first cause may be doing something means dropping something else which is more comfortable. Ask any smoker about when he/she proposes to drop the habit and the answer always mentions some time in future -never the present. Delay the process of pain and get as much pleasure as possible. But the pleasure that a procrastinator derives by delay is itself a pain. On the other hand if the procrastinator finishes the job in time, the pleasure of doing something unpleasant will be far greater. It also enhances self-esteem. But we still procrastinate. Is that not mysterious?

Fear of failure may be another possible cause. We may sometimes take up a task that looks very difficult. Our outcome can be known only when we try to finish it. Till we don't try, we are happy with the thought that we can probably do it. This fear of failing causes damage. The correct course would be try, if failure results, seek help and try again. But we postpone. There are many other underlying emotions that make a person procrastinate. The strange part is that a person may delay doing one thing but never delay another? For example, if given work in Math and history, a student may finish his/her Math works fast and postpone the History part. This may be as well vice versa.

Does procrastination help? It rarely does. It instead adds the pressure of guilt on the mind. It keeps the pressure on all the time. Doing a work and finishing with it can remove the pressure. By postponing it we stop our onward progress, because the incomplete work always remains on the agenda. Those who set time goals, and proceed according to the set schedules are far happier and self-confident persons. They always have the satisfaction of having finished the work. Those who don't value their time and in turn their life highly develop habits such as procrastination.

Ways To Connect to Troops

Serving in the military is one thing, but serving the military is another. When the troops go and fight for our freedom they count on our support. Things like morale are one of the highest concerns to keep going along with a distinct connection to friends and family. In the field or even at the home station two things help support the troops and allow them to connect.

Challenge coins give the opportunity to reward for excellence, integrity, and outstanding performance. When a commander gives a coin to a soldier it symbolizes acceptance in today’s unit. Challenge coins have been around since WWII and are coming out of the field constantly to remember where their country sent them to serve. No matter how you feel politically, this is a way to reward a citizen that could live next to you, or perhaps your son or daughter, for sacrificing the life to defend you.

Collecting challenge coins has been a direct result of all the units and commanders creating marks of their existence. So many people around the world enjoy displaying coin in their office and home for others to see the sheer beauty of their collections. If you ever want to track your favorite aircraft, ground unit, or job in the military by collecting certain challenge coins then get into a community for it. There are only a select few groups that discuss and help new collectors learn about this hobby.

Besides helping the military develop coins and collectors find them, the soldiers still need the connection. These days the government has allowed video conferencing from the front lines, email, phone calls, letters, and other methods to talk to their love ones. We all need to realize that MySpace, Face book, and other social methods are a no go out there because it’s not safe. The only social method out there has been developed and allowed on the front lines is Military Commons. This is a troops and relatives only area to allow those soldiers the freedom to connect to friends.

In the end we all try to do our part for the soldiers, airmen, sailors, and Marines out there defending themselves and other Americans for the whim of political battles and world rights. These are just some ways some people are trying to give back, You will find other ways through care packages, letters, or just a thank you on the street.

June 25th Is Child Safety Seat Inspection And Installation Fair In Indiana

A child safety seat inspection and installation fair would be held this coming Sunday, June 25th. This event would all be part of the campaign towards the reduction of fatalities among children. Three groups have joined forces so as to make this event a reality. These groups comprise of the State of Indiana, the 21st Century Insurance, and the Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The latter is actually a division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. This big event would be held at the Wal-Mart located in Fort Wayne and it would start at 11 in the morning and end at one in the afternoon.

If you travel to the state of Indiana, you would know that there is a strict rule for child safety seats. Under various programs promoting such, children who are actually eight years old and below should still be restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat. On the other hand, if you do have children who are aged 16 and below, they still must be properly restrained, not in booster seats, but in a child restraint system or seatbelt. It does not matter where the child is seating. What is important is that they are properly restrained in their seats.

This kind of event is indeed very beneficial for the driving public, especially to those drivers who have children as their passengers. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that vehicular crashes are actually the leading cause of death of children who are two years old. Vehicular crashes are also the leading cause of death among people aged four years old to 34 years old. Moreover, upon investigation, more than 80 percent of the child safety seats in such accidents have been found out to be improperly installed.

During the child safety seat inspection and installation fair this Sunday, safety technicians would be part of the event. They would be inspecting and checking the child safety seats of those who will be attending. If necessary, they would also replace and put in new ones. The 21st Century Insurance has donated new child safety seats for the benefit of the said event.

Mind Control Over Teenages

The Mosquito™ ultrasonic teenage deterrent is the solution to the eternal problem of unwanted gatherings of youths and teenagers in shopping malls, around shops and anywhere else they are causing problems. The presence of these teenagers discourages genuine shoppers and customers’ from coming into your shop, affecting your turnover and profits. Anti social behavior has become the biggest threat to private property over the last decade and there has been no effective deterrent until now.

Acclaimed by the Police forces of many areas of the United Kingdom, the Mosquito ultrasonic teenage deterrent has been described as “the most effective tool in our fight against anti social behavior”. Shop keepers around the world have purchased the device to move along unwanted gatherings of teenagers and anti social youths. Railway companies have placed the device to discourage youths from spraying graffiti on their trains and the walls of stations.

With an effective range of between forty five and sixty feet Compound Security Systems’ field trials have shown that teenagers are acutely aware of the Mosquito and usually move away from the area within an average of 8- 10 minutes. The system is completely harmless even with long term use. The Times newspaper in England reports that the device was first used at a Spar shop (convenience store) in Barry, South Wales, where the owner Robert Gough was enthusiastic about the device's success in driving away the local youths. "Either someone has come along and wiped them off the face of the earth, or it's working" he is quoted as saying. Since then, there have been literally hundreds of successful reports not only from police and local authorities, but also from business owners.

It seems that there is a very real medical phenomenon known as presbycusis or age related hearing loss which, according to The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, "begins after the age of 20 but is usually significant only in persons over 65". It first affects the highest frequencies (18 to 20 kHz) notably in those who have turned 20 years of age". It is possible to generate a high frequency sound that is audible only to teenagers.

Is your business suffering from anti social youths driving your customers away or generally causing damage or nuisance?

Are you bothered by crowds of teenager’s hanging around your street and making life unpleasant?

Mosquito™ ultrasonic deterrent can solve your problem.

Internet Detective Sites - What Are They?

Over the last five years we have seen an emergence of a new type of website, commonly referred to as an "Internet Detective Site." These sites fill the need for people searches that are not easily accomplished using the currently available search engines. Here, we will discuss the various aspects of websites that offer online detective services.

We want to answer the most basic question, "What is an internet detective site?" The simple definition is "a collection of links." An internet detective site is a collection of links to resources that allow you to search for many forms of demographic information. Most of these links can be found for free on the internet, but it would take hours, if not days, to find them all by hand. Thus, an internet detective site is providing a service that saves the searcher valuable time by gathering and updating relevant search links. The price for this service usually ranges from $19.95 to $39.95. This is often a one-time fee which buys the subscriber a lifetime membership to the service.

Some of the most frequent uses include finding a phone number or address, reverse phone number lookup, cell phone search, finding a birthdate, finding an email address, or locating a lost friend or love. Other uses include background checks, criminal record checks, military record checks, and genealogy research. The list of search types is actually very long. Here is a partial list to wet your appetite:

1) Adoption Records
2) Aircraft Crash Database
3) Real Estate Brokers Directories
4) Census Data
5) County Ordinances And Codes
6) FCC Radio Licensee Search
7) Annual Corporate Reports
8) Court Records
9) Military Records
10) Criminal Records
11) Marriage Records
12) Copyright Information
13) Patent Information

Before embarking on your people search, consider saving yourself some time by purchasing a membership to an Internet Detective Site. A good place to start is The Detective Detective ( http://www.DetectiveDetective.com ), where you will find comparisons and reviews of the most popular internet detective sites.

Good luck searching!

Neighbours 'Aren't There For One Another'

Latest research has shown that 15 per cent of Britons do not trust their neighbours at all, despite the fact that most neighbourhood watch schemes can help reduce crime in the area and the need to make possibly preventable home insurance claims.

Cornhill Direct Home Insurance polled around 3,000 people, of which just over a third said they would ideally like to live in a more isolated area.

Furthermore, almost a fifth said they would actively try and avoid contact with their neighbours and nine out of ten said it was no longer "important" to be friendly with their neighbours.

A spokesman for Cornhill Direct Home Insurance remarked: "Having neighbours you know and trust is important. A real sense of community helps to reduce crime and vandalism and makes for a much safer place to live."

"Getting to know your neighbours and doing things for them like taking in their post when they are away definitely helps reduce crime," he added.

Reducing crime in an area by forming neighbourhood watch schemes and additional security measures could be beneficial to home insurance premium costs.

The National Neighbourhood Watch Association looks to broaden the appeal of Neighbourhood Watch schemes to all areas of a community. This includes raising the awareness of the watch movement, starting project work and providing help and support in sometimes problematic areas such as ethnic and diverse communities, high crime areas and young people.

The National Neighbourhood Watch Association tries to represent the interests of the movement nationally to government and other agencies. National Neighbourhood Watch Association strives to promote, help, support, advise and develop the watch scheme, and to improve the communications and co-ordination on a national scale by ensuring consistent and effective structures are put in place. The National Neighbourhood Watch Association provides information and training for all; and promotes the exchange of good ideas and best practice.

Self Defense- Crime Wave in Phoenix and Washington DC

Recently on the Fox News Network, one of the stories was about a crime wave in Washington DC. What's new you ask? Washington DC has a history of crime waves. These statistics are particularly startling when you consider that Washington DC has so many different levels of police. In the first twelve days of July 14 people have been killed and in the last 30 days robberies are up 14% and armed assaults are up 18%.

The crime wave comes at the height of the tourist season in our nation's capitol. This is the third such crime emergency in the last four years. Tax paying, law abiding citizens are prohibited by city law from carrying lethal weapons to defend themselves because of a thirty year old ban on guns in Washington DC. Apparently only criminals can have guns. Does this show how effective such bans are?

Then came a story of two thugs terrorizing the city of Phoenix. One is called the "Baseline Rapist" because he hangs out in the southern part of Phoenix near Baseline Rd. He started his spree in August of 2005. He is believed to be responsible for 6 murders, and many robberies and sexual assaults. The other "Serial Shooter" has at least 5 murders. Sixteen of his victims have survived since he started his spree in May 2005.

Both killers have put the city in a state of terror. Citizens are rightfully afraid to go out alone after dark. Fear and paranoia are rampant.

Phoenix police are frustrated because after all this time and so many victims they don't have a good description-so they are looking for two people in a city of three plus million.

There is only so much the police can do and they are stretched thin as it is. Citizens across the country would be well advised to start taking more responsibility for their own self defense. They should investigate carrying some form of non lethal self defense weapon such as a stun gun or pepper spray. Personal alarms such as sirens and whistles act as a good deterrent too

Self defense is called that because the responsibility for defending yourself lies with the individual. Police do a wonderful job but cannot be everywhere.

New Poll Shatters Myths About Mom of 2004

The new American mom has emerged. According to the just released "Voice of Mom" Poll, conducted for ClubMom, the free national membership organization for moms, the matriarch of 2004 heads up a strong family, juggles many roles, embraces old-school values and is very much in control of the world around her.

Moms - a group 82 million strong - love the role of motherhood, even though they recognize it is a difficult job that leaves them with little time for themselves.

Family life in America is strong. Nine in 10 mothers say their husbands fully recognize and appreciate the job they do as a mom, and almost half of all dads split the responsibility for raising the kids equally with moms.

Having children strengthens marriages say 69 percent of moms. Nine in 10 hug their children every day, and 62 percent say their family eats dinner together five or more nights a week.

Most mothers feel their primary challenge is teaching values to their children, 42 percent. Education and the economy and jobs are also big concerns, 40 percent and 32 percent respectively.

But motherhood is a hard job say 88 percent of moms. A growing number - 64 percent - work outside the home, and three out of four find it difficult to balance work and family life.

Overall they are happy with their career choices, but if money were no object, only 10 percent would work full time and 42 percent would work part time.

While moms are recognized at home, they think companies could do a better job. Seventy-two percent say companies should offer more discounts, and 92 percent feel companies should adapt their policies to help working moms. Many moms, 44 percent, want more flextime, and a third want more opportunities for convenient and affordable day care.

"We commissioned this poll to take a close look at today's mom - who she is and what matters most to her. We wanted to offer moms the opportunity to be heard and create a benchmark study that we can measure against on an annual basis," said Alexandra Aleskovsky, chief mom officer for ClubMom. "We plan to distribute the findings to Fortune 1000 companies, the president and members of Congress and challenge them to do more for moms."

The History Of Medical Scrubs

If I asked you to picture a surgeon in your mind's eye, you almost certainly would picture an individual in medical scrubs (most likely white or green scrubs), wearing a mask, etc. But it hasn't always been that way. Medical scrubs are actually a relatively modern practice.

Until the 20th century, surgery was (compared to today's standards) a rather crude operation, which did not really involve any sanitation, least of all anything like medical scrubs. Sterilization was not even a consideration, because there was really no understanding of how disease and germs spread. Many scientists believed in spontaneous generation, meaning that germs spontaneously generated from nothing. Little or no consideration was given to basic sanitation, so the mortality rate was very high.

Actually, many surgeons wore a butcher's apron, and since they did not don a clean one between patients, it would become very soiled by blood and fluids. So a dirty apron just meant a busy surgeon.

Around 1920, sanitation methods began to be employed in the operating room. By the 1940's, an increased understanding of operation sanitation motivated the introduction of sanitary drapes and attire for the medical personnel.

Originally, the scrubs were white, to emphasize and display their cleanliness. However, this presented several problems. First of all, red blood splotches were quite unsightly on white clothing. Also, the all white clothing, when coupled with bright lighting, cause eye strain. So they began switching from white to green clothing.

By the 1970's, scrubs had largely become what they are today: a short sleeve shirt and drawstring pants, in most cases, made of green cotton.

All medical scrubs are not green, though. Many hospitals color code their uniforms according to departments. For example, Emergency Room staff would wear pink, Surgery staff would wear green, and Labor and Delivery Room staff would wear blue. Or, in university hospitals, the staff may wear colors corresponding to the school colors.

Will You Live Together Till Your Death?

Loving and living together make a wonderful life. If a couple is in deep love with each other, and loyal with the commitment of staying together till death, it will be a beautiful life. After all, we want relationships that survive. We want relationships that help us grow in life, fight the odds, and enjoy life.

Is this possible? The trend is to separate if there is any mismatch. How is it possible to find a partner with whom one can blissfully spend life together forever? To have such a blessed life, the first need is of caring for each other. When we genuinely care for the other person, we forgive a lot, we tolerate a lot and we adjust everything. The central reason is care. I care for my spouse. I love him/her and I know about all the habits that I hate and everything that is not very lovable. But my love and care looks away from all this and looks towards only one thing- care. Does a mother ever think of separating from her child? No- because she cares. And equally or rather more importantly, she can never imagine doing this.

Can you think of your partner in the same way? In the journey of life, you will come across many persons of opposite sex who will look much better suited than your partner. Will you entertain that possibility of leaving your partner? If you decide not to, you can overcome all such temptations.

Expectations also play a big role in a relationship. We expect and when we don't get, we are disappointed. We may get angry and if the anger persists, separation results. The best way is to spell out all your expectations. Point out whenever you feel they are not being met and try to ignore as many situations as you can when your expectations are not being met. Sounds complicated? It is rather simple. As you expect, your partner also expects. You may think of yourself as a perfect human being, but you are not. So the mistakes will occur on both the sides. What should be done? First, ignore, and if not possible, point out and if still not changed, bear and forgive. But decide to live together because you care. Genuine love can beat all the obstacles on its path. If both of you are in genuine love that binds you together, nothing can ever separate you. If you are in deep and genuine love, decide to overcome all the obstacles on the way and you will be able to do that easily.

What Al Qaeda Will Never Understand About The Katrina Disaster

There are rumors that Bin Laden and his minions are sitting around laughing at the spectacle of the mighty United States bungling the relief efforts for the Gulf Coast. It is certainly ironic, and would be laughable if not for the tragedy it caused, that for disasters anywhere in the world, cargo planes laden with relief supplies are in the air in a matter of hours and ships change course instantaneously to bring aid and comfort, yet it takes us more than a week to reach our own victims.

The terrorists will never see, nor ever comprehend, the real story. They have no interest in individual heroic efforts in the face of total chaos. They pay no attention to the thousands of families who are opening their homes, and their hearts, to the dazed, the poor, the dispossessed.

They chortle at destruction, whether caused by nature or their own design. But they cannot fathom the people who dig themselves out and get on with their lives: the flood victims who find a dry haven and go out to find a job; the subway riders who return to work the following day on a different train; the financial workers who move into new quarters and return to their duties; the families who grow in strength because of the horror they have endured.

The terrorists believe that America is powerful because of its military, its technology, and its wealth. They will never understand that the West’s power is in its people. They see a politically divided nation but are blind to its unity and cohesiveness as a community. They fail to appreciate that in the face of catastrophe, all Britons are Londoners, and all Americans call New Orleans home.

The anarchists’ subjugation of individual importance to their overriding cause, and their misinterpretation of religious fervor, has forever blurred their vision, concealing the rugged, optimistic, and unfailingly generous individualism that created and maintains the America we know.

And because they don’t understand us, they’ll keep on heaping terror on us, never realizing that they cannot, ever, win.

Tips to Avoid Fraud While Helping Hurricane Victims

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, many are wondering how they can help. At the same time, criminals are using this outpouring of support to take advantage of well-meaning citizens through deception and fraud.

People who wish to contribute to the relief effort are urged to beware of charity scams, which are especially prevalent online. Consumer advocates offer the following advice:

* Make sure the organization is legitimate. Some illicit organizations will try to confuse you by using a name that is similar to a well-known charity. Do your research to find a reputable charity. For a list of charity reports, visit the BBB Wise Giving Alliance Web site, www.give.org.

* Never respond to or click on a link within an e-mail asking for money and claiming to be from a charity. If you wish to make a donation online, stick with familiar, established charities and donate through their Web sites directly.

* Be skeptical of telephone solicitations. Never give out your personal or credit card information. Ask for a charity's exact name and address. After researching the organization, call back using its published number if you would like to get more information by phone.

* Give a check or money order made out to the organization, not an individual.

The Old School Stands Strong

There has been a strong trend recently towards on-line greeting cards, or e-cards, as they are more commonly referred to. The automatic assumption would then be that normal greeting cards, the traditional hallmark (bad pun intended) of birthdays, holidays, and graduations would be on the decline, but according to Hallmark Cards and American Greetings (by far and away the two largest producers of greeting cards in the United States) that is not the case, and both companies have actually continued to sell more cards the last few years than before.

According to recent numbers, there were literally billions of greeting cards bought last year. This is a staggering number, and seems to show two things: 1) e-cards would have to go an incredibly long way, indeed, to even make a dent in these greeting card giants, and 2) the e-card take over has not been as sudden or complete as many people assumed it would be. E-mail and e-cards promised to revolutionize the business of saying ,“I Love You,” but so far that sentiment has not caught on.

Even as more and more electronic greetings make their way to e-mail accounts all around the world, the old fashioned ink-on-paper greetings have held their ground--a fact many people attribute to the irreplaceable feeling of opening, and even saving, a physical card from an old friend, lover, or family member. Over the past few years, greeting card retail growth has been mostly from the sales of cards for everyday situations, and not, as commonly thought, for holidays. A study done by a committee put together by a conglamorate of greeting cards companies found one of the main reasons consumers head toward greeting cards rather than hashing out their feelings in a letter is because greeting cards "make it easy to express feelings" and "help people express them selves better than they can alone."

Despite the boom of e-cards, more than 90% of U.S. households were part of a year that created over $7.5 billion dollars last year. A second thought on why greeting cards continue to do well is the tradition of saving Christmas cards, which for many people, is the “catch up on all this year’s news” for old friends and acquaintances. There are also graduations and birthdays, which often involve relatives giving money, which is very easy, and discretely done, through cards, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing soon.

Rene Piedra, DMD Gives People Beautiful Smiles

Whether you like it or not, the appearance of your teeth has a dramatic effect on both how others perceive you as well as your own self-image and self-esteem. Studies have shown that a person's appearance will have a strong effect on their social and career success, by influencing how others perceive them. In fact, over 70% of Americans believe that an unattractive smile can hurt career success. "We believe it is important to help people in their everyday lives by giving them beautiful smiles," states Rene Piedra, DMD.

While the appearance of the teeth is one of the most important contributors to facial beauty, it is also probably the most often neglected when improvements to appearance are sought. A person with low self-esteem connected to their facial appearance, can often be greatly helped by cosmetic dental procedures. Dr. Piedra mission is "to provide my patients with healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime. Having the smile you want is no longer a matter of fate but one of choice."

What is surprising to most is that no matter what the problem with your smile, there's a way to make it absolutely stunning.

* Stained, discolored teeth can be whitened
* Crooked, overlapped teeth can be straightened
* Chipped, broken, worn teeth can be repaired
* Unattractive metal fillings can be replaced with natural-looking restorations
* Missing teeth can be replaced
* Gaps between teeth can be closed
* Gummy smiles can be fixed

Smile makeovers have become more common, less invasive, faster and more effective in correcting cosmetic dental problems. "The effect of these procedures can be nothing short of dramatic both in terms of appearance and also in terms of correcting, at least partially, personality deficiencies caused by poor self-image," says Dr. Piedra and his many happy patients would agree.

Why Men Should Get Hair Color Too

We all know that men are the first ones to let their image regimen slide. Sure, men tend to get haircuts like clockwork, but when it comes to getting other salon services, like hair color, most men opt for the easy path of non colorization.

Even though men tend to ignore this salon service, there are many reasons why they should be taking the time and indulging in a little hair color. Aside from the fact that hair color covers gray, it has other benefits that men would love if they only gave it a chance. Here are just a few:

· Color adds body and thickness. One of the easiest ways to plump up thinning hair is to get them colored. This is because color opens the cuticle layer which adds volume and lifts hair away from the scalp, making it fuller. All of this works to make the hair appear thicker and full of life.

· Color adds interest to short cuts. Most men’s cuts are extremely short so it is almost impossible to add any interest or personal flair to them. But with a little hair color, you can personalize your cut. Color can also adds the illusion of movement and vibrancy when it is caught in the light.

· Color brightens up too-drab natural hair colors. If your hair color is drab, boring and lifeless, a few strands of HiLites can do wonders to brighten up your hair. This can also help to brighten up your facial features as well. It can even make you look younger and like you’ve been spending some time in the sun.

· Men’s color services are often less expensive than women’s services. If nothing else will draw you, maybe a good deal will. The truth is that men’s color services can often cost considerably less than those of women.

In addition to all of these benefits, color also adds texture and definition to any style. This can help make styling a breeze and actually save you time. So, if you’ve ever wondered if you should get hair color, now is the time to give it a try.

Rubber Bracelets

There has been a surge in the popularity of rubber bracelets in recent years.

The most popular of these would surely be the ‘Livestrong’ wristband that is for the support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation for people battling with cancer. The money from the sale of these rubber wristbands supports the funding of the foundation.

Many different charities and foundations now use rubber bracelets to support their cause and sell them for varying prices in an effort to raise money. As these rubber bracelets are highly visual they also help to raise awareness and help for others.

Another popular rubber bracelet is the ‘Support our Troops’ wristband that you will see on many people, particularly those who have family members in active duty in the military overseas.

Rubber bracelets allow the opportunity for many different types of customization possibilities aside from the many and varied colors that they are produced in.

They can be worn as a fashion accessory, as a sign of support for a charity, and even as a medical aid where they can store important medical information for the wearer should they ever need medical assistance.

The fact that there are so many different uses for rubber bracelets has been the reason why they are more popular now than ever.

Many rubber bracelets are embossed with different messages and words that people like to share with others.

There is also an increase in the number of hobbyists who are crafting their own custom rubber bracelets and there are several books on the market that deal with this hobby in depth.

If you have a charity, then a rubber bracelet might be the solution you have been looking for to attract funds and bring to other people’s awareness the message that you are trying to convey.

As a cost effective method of spreading the word there aren’t many methods that can be quite as effective for a small groups.

Lions Clubs Encourage Early Childhood Vision Screenings

Health screenings are a traditional part of the back-to- school season throughout the country. Eye screenings in particular are important for children entering school for the first time, since vision and learning are inextricably linked.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, vision problems affect one in every 20 preschoolers and one in four school-aged children. Unfortunately, most children do not receive proper eye screenings prior to entering school. Studies show that only about 20 percent of preschool children have their vision screened through government or private programs.

Photoscreening is a screening method that uses a camera to photograph a child's eye. It can detect conditions such as lazy eye, farsightedness and nearsightedness, cataracts and misalignment of the eyes.

More than 430,000 pre-literate children in the U.S. between the ages of 6 months and 5 years have been photoscreened for such vision problems through their local Lions clubs. Nearly 26,500 of them have been referred for treatment.

These photoscreenings, which are done by trained volunteers, are a cost-effective way to identify vision problems in children and have been shown to be 85 percent to 90 percent accurate.

Vision disorders are the fourth most common disability among children in the U.S. The earlier children are screened, the better the chance of preventing permanent vision loss.

A child might be exhibiting signs of a vision problem if he or she:

* rubs his or her eyes often;

* has trouble focusing;

* blinks more than usual;

* squints when focusing on

distant objects;

* frowns excessively;

* stumbles over small objects;

* is sensitive to light;

* has inflamed or watery eyes.

If you notice any of these signs in your child, contact your doctor or check with your child's school or your local Lions club for screenings in your area.

Lions Clubs International - recognized worldwide for its service to the blind and visually impaired - also dedicates itself to helping those less fortunate in communities around the world.
